Domaine de la Percée
Traditional Normandy Cider, Calvados & D-Day History
Located in the heart of the Bessin, just a short distance from Omaha Beach and Pointe du Hoc, the Domaine de la Percée is much more than a traditional Normandy cider farm. It is a family-run estate where local craftsmanship, apple-growing traditions and the history of the D-Day campaign come together.
The estate produces its own Calvados, traditional cider and fresh apple juice, continuing a family farming tradition that has shaped this part of Normandy for generations.
But the Domaine de la Percée also holds a remarkable and lesser-known chapter of American military history. During the Battle of Normandy, the property was used by the 147th Engineer Combat Battalion, whose men established their headquarters here and built an airstrip in the family’s apple orchard. A memorial on the estate commemorates the American soldiers of the unit who lost their lives during and shortly after D-Day.
As a local guide with a passion for battlefield history, I enjoy bringing this story to life, explaining how the estate became connected to the Allied campaign and revealing details that many visitors would otherwise overlook.
The Domaine de la Percée is one of the stops on my “The GRAL e-bike tour“, and it can also be included in my private guided tours, particularly itineraries exploring Pointe du Hoc and the surrounding American battlefield sector.
It is a unique opportunity to discover both the flavours of Normandy and a fascinating piece of its wartime history.
