How Much Time Do You Need to Visit the D-Day Beaches?

A focused visit around Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery and Pointe du Hoc can be experienced in approximately half a day by private vehicle. A longer itinerary connecting Omaha Beach, Port-en-Bessin, Longues-sur-Mer and Arromanches generally takes a full day, allowing time to travel between the sites and explore each location.

By e-bike, the journey itself becomes part of the experience. Cycling between the historic sites takes longer than travelling by vehicle, but it also allows you to experience hidden parts of the D-Day, the Normandy landscape, coastal roads and quieter places along the way.

Walking experiences naturally require more time and are best suited to selected unique areas and specific itineraries which cannot be explored in another way.

Omaha Beach: The Heart of the American D-Day Sector

For many visitors, Omaha Beach is the essential starting point for understanding the American D-Day experience. The beach itself, the surrounding cliffs and valleys, the German defensive positions and the nearby Normandy American Cemetery all help explain what happened here on June 6, 1944.

A visit can be combined with the Normandy American Cemetery and, when appropriate, Pointe du Hoc. Depending on your interests and available time, you can also extend the itinerary towards Port-en-Bessin, Longues-sur-Mer or Arromanches.
