Meet Bernard
Your Local Normandy Guide — A Scientific Mind, a Passion for History and a Love of Discovery

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
My background combines professional training in tourism, private transportation, drone operations and a scientific career. Each of these disciplines contributes to the way I prepare and deliver experiences in Normandy.
CERTIFIED TOURIST GUIDE AND TOUR LEADER “Guide Accompagnateur Touristique”
I hold a professional qualification in tourist guiding and tour leadership obtained in France. My training supports the way I prepare visits, accompany guests and adapt historical commentary to their interests, pace and expectations.

PROFESSIONAL PRIVATE-HIRE DRIVER (VTC)
I am also a professional VTC driver in France. When private transportation is included in the service you book, I can combine guiding and travel arrangements to provide a more flexible way to explore Normandy.

PROFESSIONAL DRONE PILOT
I am also a professional drone pilot, with an interest in using aerial perspectives to reveal the shape of landscapes and historic sites. Any drone operation is subject to applicable regulations, permissions, weather conditions, safety requirements and site restrictions.

PhD in Acoustics
Before developing my tourism activities, I built a scientific and technical career and earned a PhD in Acoustics.
My scientific background taught me to investigate carefully, distinguish facts from assumptions, understand complex systems and explain them clearly. I bring this same curiosity and attention to detail to the history and landscapes of Normandy.

WHY I LOVE SHARING NORMANDY?
The D-Day landing beaches are places of extraordinary historical importance. But understanding them requires more than remembering dates and names.
The terrain, distances, slopes, visibility and relationship between different sites all help explain how events unfolded. When we explore the battlefield together, I aim to connect the historical story with the landscape in front of us, making the places easier to understand and remember.
I also love showing visitors another side of Normandy: its dramatic coastline, quiet countryside, old stone buildings, villages, natural areas and local heritage.
Every visitor arrives with different interests. Some come primarily for the Second World War; others are interested in architecture, nature, photography or the wider history of the region. I enjoy adapting the pace and content of a visit to the people I am guiding.

A LIFE SPENT EXPLORING
Travel and outdoor adventure have long been part of my life.
I have undertaken numerous multi-day cycling journeys, as well as hiking trips through the Alpine mountain ranges. Some of these adventures have been completed in semi-autonomy, others with complete self-sufficiency.
These experiences taught me to prepare carefully, remain adaptable, appreciate the details that are easily missed when travelling too quickly, and respect the environments through which we pass.
They also reinforced something I value greatly: the authentic and convivial encounters that happen when people share a journey, a landscape or a common interest.
This is one of the reasons I enjoy private guiding. A visit should leave room for questions, spontaneous discoveries and genuine conversations.
NATURE, HERITAGE AND A MORE THOUGHTFUL WAY TO TRAVEL
My interests extend well beyond history. I am passionate about nature, landscapes, architecture and old stones — the traces of previous generations that remain visible in the places around us.
I care about environmental responsibility and the preservation of the landscapes and heritage that make Normandy special.
Whenever appropriate for the itinerary and the interests of my guests, I enjoy exploring on foot or by bicycle and encouraging a closer connection with the natural environment. I believe that travelling thoughtfully often allows us to appreciate a place more deeply.
I am also interested in philosophy, psychology and the ways people understand the world. These interests naturally influence my curiosity about history: behind historical events are always human decisions, motivations, hopes and fears.
A PRIVATE EXPERIENCE, BUILT AROUND YOU
Normandy Explorations is an independent business, and I am personally involved in preparing and delivering the experiences I offer.
You will know who your guide is, who to contact with your questions and who will accompany you on your visit.
Whether you are planning a focused visit to Omaha Beach, a full day exploring the American D-Day sector, an outdoor adventure or a longer private journey through Normandy, I will be pleased to discuss your interests and help shape an itinerary suited to your plans.
My goal is simple: to help you discover Normandy with greater understanding, curiosity and a genuine connection to the places you visit.
